Classic forum draft game. 8 people required. Straight knock-out.
How the game works:
You take turns to pick 12 players to make up a team(with 1 sub in any position) and then they “play” against another team and the winner is decided by other people voting for the team they think would win the game.
The picks would be chosen like this (this is an example using 4 random players):This is the order, drawn at random, of the order of the first draft pick.
Player A – First
Player B – Second
Player C – Third
Player D – Fourth
So by the end of round one each of us should have one player on our team. The order of the second draft pick would be
Player D – First
Player C – Second
Player B – Third
Player A – Fourth
After this round each team should have two players. In the third round the picks go in the same order as the first pick with Player A first and the fourth round the picks would go in the same order as the second pick, with Player D first and so on until each person has picked 12 players.
Then, they’ll put them into a team in any formation they choose and justify their decisions for picking certain players. Their team will then be pitted against someone else’s team in a ‘match’
Rules:
1. Squad of 12 players(One player on the "bench" for each round you play)
2. One team can't have more than 2 players from the same club. If they've played for several clubs, then the one where they had the most appearances for will be used to fulfil the criteria. After the first round, this will increase to a maximum of 3 players from the same club(Again, based on appearances). There is no limit on which leagues you choose the players from, or which nationality they are.
3. As this is a 2008-13 version, the player in question will then only be judged using there performance during these years when the matches are played.
4. Straight knock out (hence only 8 or 16 players)
5. The person who picks last on turn 1 will get 2 picks, and the order will reverse etc (so there's not a big disadvantage in whatever position you pick)
6. A random number generator will be used to determine order.
7. You'll have 24 hours to pick a player - if you miss the deadline the next person will get to pick). And you then get 2 picks when your turn comes round again.
8. Separate threads will be created announcing each fixture and each one will have a poll where people can vote for who they think will win the game. Participants are expected to email me their bios for their players, and match tactics, including their formation diagram so i am able to post it on the OP.
9. When we play the matches, the winning team gets to pick any player from the team they just beat to take with them to the next round. It'll improve the game in the later rounds as you then have more choice with how you're going to line up looking at your next opponent.
A few other points:
- The players are judged on what they did for their club, and also internationally. The major international tournaments they may be judged for in this time period, include; Euro 2008, WC2010 and Euro 2012.
- This is a draft without Messi or Ronaldo. The thought is that Messi and Ronaldo were the two most dominating footballers in this time period by a long, long way. Their exclusion can hopefully make all the teams more competitive, and later on, more fun to judge. No player would start off with much of an advantage with their first picks, compared to if they had either of these two players.
- There is a word limit on the bios and tactics in this version of the draft. This is done to hopefully add to the challenge, and also make it easier for others when trying to read all the appropriate information and then cast their vote. The total no. of words for BIOS shouldn't exceed 1000 words, and the total no. of words for TACTICS shouldn't exceed 700 words. Diagrams are obviously excluded and don't form part of the word count if they have titles e.t.c.
- Lastly, I want to stress that everyone should please vote on each match. This aspect was disappointing in the last draft, where the drop off in voting was quite bad. It would only be 3 votes in the first round with their being 4 matches, then 2 votes in the next, then 1 in the final. You will be given plenty of time to vote on the match so hopefully we can get a good no. of votes on each match.
Feel free to ask any questions if you're still unsure of anything. A thread will shortly be created for the picking of players, which will also include the order of draw.
Lastly, as the idea of this is a quick draft game, hence only 8 players, can i stress that we try and whizz through the picks. So as soon as you know who you're player is going to be, you should post it on the thread, or announce it on twitter. If you have your pick ready, but are going to be away when your turn comes round, then please give it to someone after you in the order, so they can state the pick for you. Give a back up incase the pick gets taken
I hope that's all clear now.
Participants in the draft:
1- Lewinick
2- Scroobiusmac
3- Applebonkers
4- KK
5- Jkisthe1
6- Orpheus Jones
7- Demi
8- Squeakybumtime
